Violence Erupts in Manipur’s Tamenglong District
A violent clash between two Naga villages in Manipur’s Tamenglong district has left at least 25 people injured, including 12 security personnel. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when a group of residents from Old Tamenglong village marched towards the offices of the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police to submit a memorandum regarding a land dispute.
Clash Between Villages
The situation escalated when residents of Dailong village allegedly hurled stones at the procession, triggering a clash. Villagers from Duigailong joined the fight in support of Dailong. During the unrest, a government building was set on fire.
Security Forces Intervene
Security forces were deployed to the area and used tear gas shells to disperse the crowd and restore order. The authorities have imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS) in Tamenglong district headquarters and surrounding areas.
Restrictions in Place
The restrictions aim to maintain law and order in the area and prevent further violence. Officials have clarified that the conflict is related to a local boundary dispute and is not connected to previous ethnic clashes between Meiteis and Kukis.
