Chicago – May 10, 2025

India and Pakistan, two nuclear-armed neighbors, agreed to an immediate ceasefire on May 10, 2025, following four days of intense military clashes. The ceasefire came after intense diplomatic pressure, including from the United States, aiming to prevent escalation into full-scale war.

However, the truce was short-lived. India violated the ceasefire by launching drone attacks and artillery fire targeting several cities and military installations in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, Bahawalpur, Peshawar, Gujarat and Bholari Airbase.

Pakistan has condemned the violations, stating that India had breached the understanding reached earlier that day. Pakistani officials urged India to take immediate corrective measures to restore peace and stability.

Conversely, India’s foreign ministry denied violating the ceasefire and accused Pakistan of breaches in certain regions.

This latest flare-up underscores the volatility of the Kashmir region and the persistent tensions between India and Pakistan, which have fought multiple wars since their independence in 1947. The international community continues to call for sustained dialogue to prevent further escalation and promote lasting peace in the region,
