Chicago – May 20, 2025
President Donald Trump has announced a new plan for a missile defense system called the Golden Dome. This system is designed to protect the United States by detecting and stopping missiles at all stages of their flight, from before they are launched to when they are falling toward their target. The Golden Dome will use space-based sensors and weapons for the first time to stop threats from missiles, including those launched from far away.
Trump said the Golden Dome should be ready by the end of his presidency. He also mentioned that Canada has shown interest in being part of the project, and the United States will do its best to help them. The system will be built in the U.S., with factories in states like Georgia, Alaska, Florida, and Indiana involved in making it.
General Michael Guetlein, the vice chief of space operations, will lead the development of the Golden Dome defense system.
