King Charles III and Queen Camilla have arrived in Canada for a two-day visit. This visit is important because it shows support for Canada’s independence. This comes after President Trump threatened to make Canada the 51st state of the United States.
The King was welcomed at the airport in Ottawa by important people, including Canada’s new prime minister, Mark Carney, and Mary Simon, the country’s first Indigenous governor general. Mary Simon represents the King in Canada.
Mark Carney became prime minister in April after promising to stand up to Trump. When he became leader of the Liberal party, Carney asked King Charles to visit. This was during a time when Trump had put taxes on Canadian goods and talked about taking over Canada.
Carney said the King’s visit is a very special honor and fits the serious times Canada is facing.
During the visit, King Charles and Prime Minister Carney will have a meeting.
On Tuesday, King Charles will read a speech to open Canada’s parliament. This is the first time a King or Queen has done this since 1977, when Queen Elizabeth spoke to the Senate.
