FC Barcelona announced on Tuesday that 17-year-old soccer star Lamine Yamal has signed a new contract to stay with the club until the end of the 2030-31 season.
Yamal had told CNN Sports last December that Barcelona is the club he loves most. He said, “Barça is the club of my life. I want to play in the Spanish league. I want to play for Barça, and yes, I will renew my contract.”
The contract was signed at Barcelona’s offices in front of club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco. While the club did not share the exact details, reports from Spain say Yamal will earn about 19 million euros (around $21.5 million) each year after taxes, making him one of the highest-paid players on the team.
Yamal’s father, Mounir Nasraoui, hinted at this number by sharing a post on Instagram with “19.3” written above it, celebrating his son’s new deal.
This new contract will keep Yamal at Barcelona until he is 23 years old, which is when many soccer players start reaching their best years. This means Barcelona has secured one of the most promising young talents in soccer for many years to come.
