Federal Reserve HQ Inspection Amid Trump-Powell Tensions

The Trump administration wants to inspect the Federal Reserve’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. because they’re concerned about the $2.5 billion renovation project. The project’s cost has ballooned from $1.9 billion to $2.5 billion, and President Trump thinks there might be financial improprieties. White House Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair says they just want to know if the design plans really changed like Fed Chair Jerome Powell said.

This inspection is part of a bigger fight between Trump and Powell. Trump has been criticizing Powell for not cutting interest rates, and now he’s questioning the renovation costs. Senate Banking Chair Tim Scott might even join the inspection visit. Trump has hinted that he might want Powell out of his job as Fed Chair, but hasn’t decided yet. The administration is trying to get to the bottom of the renovation costs, and Powell has explained that the project involves many safety upgrades and hazardous materials removal.

The outcome of this inspection could be important. If the administration finds any wrongdoing, it could lead to more tension between Trump and the Federal Reserve. Powell has said the renovation project is under strict oversight, but Trump remains unconvinced. This whole situation shows how much tension there is between the White House and the Federal Reserve right now.
