A woman in Texas has been charged with attempted murder after trying to drown a three-year-old Palestinian girl, according to U.S. media and local police reports. The incident happened on May 19 in Euless, Texas, and civil rights groups are calling it racially motivated.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Texas) said 42-year-old Elizabeth Wolf attacked the girl at the swimming pool in her family’s apartment complex. The child’s mother and six-year-old brother were also there. The girl’s mother said, “Our country is facing war and we are facing hate here. I don’t know where to go.” She added that her daughter is traumatized and afraid to go outside.
Salman Bhojani, a Texas House of Representatives member from Euless, said he was “appalled” by the incident.
This attack happened while Israel’s war on Gaza continues, with over 37,598 Palestinians killed.
