Russia said on Sunday that the United States was responsible for an attack on Ukraine’s annexed Crimean peninsula with five US-supplied missiles that killed four people, including two children, and wounded 151 others.
Russian Defense Ministry said air defense systems shot down four US-supplied Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) rockets equipped with a cluster warhead, and the fifth projectile exploded in mid-air.
Footage from Russian state television showed people running from the beach and some people being carried on deck chairs.
Russian officials in Crimea said shrapnel fell shortly after noon near a beach north of the city of Sevastopol where locals rest.
The incident caused a furious reaction among Russian public figures.
According to the Ministry of Defense, American experts determined the flight coordinates of the missiles based on data from American intelligence satellites, which means that Washington was directly responsible.
