Chicago – July 11, 2024
Democratic organizers have canceled a planned fundraiser in Chicago during the Democratic National Convention in August, as support for President Joe Biden declines, CNN reported.
The organizers decided to drop the event after disagreements on how to move forward with Biden’s slipping support. They had paused planning until after the July 4 holiday, following Biden’s poor debate performance against Donald Trump on June 27.
CNN said the event was expected to gather a few dozen wealthy Chicagoans and raise less than $1 million for the campaign.
Biden is facing increasing pressure and concern from his own party to step aside for the 2024 presidential election. Thirteen House Democrats have publicly opposed Biden, including Rep. Brad Schneider of Illinois on Thursday.
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, a major Biden supporter, was caught on a hot microphone on Wednesday, apparently expressing concern about the state of the race.
