Chicago – July 12, 2024
The Congress party reacted to the government’s decision to call June 25 “Samvidhan Hatya Diwas,” marking the 1975 Emergency declaration, by proposing June 4 as “ModiMukti Diwas.” This date marks the announcement of the last General Election results.
Jairam Ramesh, Congress General Secretary, wrote on X that the Prime Minister, whom he described as a “non-biological PM,” had imposed an undeclared Emergency for ten years. He highlighted that June 4, 2024, will be remembered as “ModiMukti Diwas” due to the Prime Minister’s defeat.
Ramesh accused PM Modi of attacking India’s Constitution and its values. He mentioned that Modi’s ideological supporters had rejected the Constitution in 1949, favoring Manusmriti instead. He also criticized Modi’s approach to democracy, calling it “demo-kursi.”
While the Opposition accuses the BJP of planning to change the Constitution, the BJP counters by highlighting the 1975 Emergency imposed by then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Ramesh also shared a video of Modi’s 2016 demonetization announcement, continuing the political debate.
