Abrar, a Muslim tutor running the Joint Mentor of Discipline (JMD) coaching centre, was reportedly assaulted by supporters of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other Hindutva groups following a dispute over tuition fees with a parent in Delhi’s Shakurpur
In a video statement, Abrar’s brother Irfan appealed for help from Bhim Army, alleging that the police ignored their complaint. According to Irfan, a disagreement with a parent on 4th July escalated into violence when the parent brought people from Tiger Group and VHP, who allegedly beat Abrar severely. “My elder brother was brutally thrashed and had to be hospitalized in the ICU,” Irfan stated.
The situation worsened as threats against the brothers continued, prompting them to seek refuge elsewhere due to fear for their safety. “They are sending their men to check whether we are at home or not. We request the Bhim Army to help us,” Irfan added.
Meanwhile, a complaint was filed against Abrar, Irfan, and Rizwan by a parent whose sons study at the JMD coaching centre, alleging that his sons were coerced into reading Qur’an and reciting Islamic Kalma.
Subhash Place police registered an FIR based on this complaint under sections 299 and 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on 7th July.
