President Joe Biden has renewed his call for Congress to ban assault rifles, including the AR-15 after it was used in an attempted shooting of Donald Trump. The incident occurred at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania when a gunman fired at Trump from a nearby rooftop, grazing his ear.
“This AR-15 was used in the shooting of Donald Trump. It’s the same weapon that has taken so many lives, including children. It’s time to outlaw them,” Biden said at a convention in Las Vegas. His comments came as he resumed his campaign after pausing it for several days following the attack.
During this pause, Biden’s campaign had stopped verbal attacks, pulled television ads, and shared a message of unity. Speaking at the NAACP convention on Tuesday, Biden expressed sorrow over the heated nature of politics but also criticized Trump. Gun control is a key issue for Biden, and he has frequently called for stricter gun laws.
