Chicago – July 21, 2024
President Biden announced on Sunday that he will stop his 2024 re-election campaign. This decision comes after many Democrats pressured him to quit following a poor debate performance last month. Biden, who is 81, faced growing calls from his own party to step aside as many believed he could not win against former President Trump in the November election.
In a public letter, Biden expressed his support for Vice President Kamala Harris to become the Democratic nominee. He wrote, “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president. While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”
Biden will address the nation later this week to explain his decision.
