Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, announced on Wednesday that the INDIA bloc will pressure the government to provide a legal guarantee for farmers’ minimum support price (MSP). This statement came after Gandhi met with a delegation of 12 farmer leaders from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka at the Parliament House complex.
The farmer leaders shared their concerns and issues with Gandhi. “Our manifesto promised a legal guarantee for MSP. We’ve assessed it and found it feasible. We will discuss this with INDIA bloc leaders and put pressure on the government to ensure farmers get a legal guarantee for MSP,” Gandhi said.
In a post on X, Gandhi reiterated, “Legal guarantee for MSP is the right of farmers. INDIA will ensure they get this right.”
After meeting with Gandhi, a farmer leader said, “Rahul Gandhi listened to us patiently. We had a long discussion about our demand for a legal guarantee for MSP. The INDIA bloc partners have assured us they will raise the farmers’ issues.”
