The U.S. is currently racking up medals at a faster pace than they did at the Tokyo Olympics: The team has 20 medals through Day 3, where in Tokyo, Team USA had 14 medals (though seven of those were gold, as opposed to three through Monday).
Women have won just over half of the 20 U.S. medals so far.
France won as many medals in Day three as it did in the first two days of competition combined, bringing their total to 16 and keeping pace with Team USA.
The last Summer Olympics in which the United States did not top the gold medal table was in 2008 in Beijing. Countries always get a medal bump being the host nation, and France is expected to almost triple the number of gold medals it won in Tokyo.
