Chicago – August 03, 2024
The American swimmers achieved an exciting victory in the pool, winning a gold medal grandly at the mixed 4×100 medley relay. The team set a new world record on Saturday. Ryan Murphy, Gretchen Walsh, Nic Fink, and Torri Huske finished the race at 3:37.43. This fantastic time beat the old world record by a small margin, just 15 hundredths of a second! Even though China also broke the previous world record at 3:37.55, they finished in second place.
This victory marked the sixth gold medal for the Americans in swimming at these games, putting them just one gold behind Australia. This was Torri Huske’s second gold medal; she had earlier won in the women’s 100m butterfly event. Huske also won silver medals in the women’s 100m freestyle and the 4×100 freestyle relay, where she teamed up with Gretchen Walsh.
This achievement follows another record-setting event, where the mixed 4×400 relay track team also set a world record but ended up with a silver medal in their final.
