Kamala Harris introduced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice presidential pick to a cheering crowd in Philadelphia on Tuesday evening. This move puts the outspoken Midwestern leader in the national spotlight and strengthens Harris’s campaign for president.
Speaking to 14,000 people at Temple University’s Liacouras Center, Harris praised Walz as someone who makes everyone feel included and encourages them to think big. She described him as the kind of vice president America needs.
Governor Walz, 60, criticized President Trump during his speech, a role he enjoys. He pointed out that violent crime rose under Trump’s presidency and criticized Trump’s running mate, Senator J.D. Vance, for sharing what he called a dangerous agenda. Walz also criticized Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, saying he didn’t act decisively enough.
Overall, Harris and Walz’s joint appearance energized supporters and underscored their campaign’s focus on leadership and change.
