The Madhya Pradesh State Education Department has recently canceled the recognition of 61 madrasas after inspecting all 1,677 in the state. The government ordered this inspection to ensure these educational institutions follow state guidelines.
On July 30, School Education Minister Uday Pratap Singh instructed that any madrasas not meeting the guidelines should revoke their recognition and that the state’s support for them should be immediately stopped.
This is the first time such an inspection has been conducted under Chief Minister Mohan Singh Yadav. In 2023, during the assembly election campaign, former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan pledged to review any illegal madrasas and institutions that promote bigotry. According to the Madrasa board, 341 Madrasas lost their affiliation in 2023, and in 2022, 684 Madrasas were derecognized for failing to renew their licenses and other related issues.
