Kamala Harris, the U.S. vice president and Democratic presidential candidate, proposes several plans to help Americans financially in her first major speech about the economy. Speaking in Raleigh, North Carolina, she plans to outline her goals for the first 100 days if elected. Harris wants to expand the child tax credit to $6,000 for families with newborns, reduce taxes for families with children, and lower the cost of prescription drugs. She also plans to address the high costs of groceries and housing.
Harris’ economic ideas are similar to President Joe Biden’s but include new measures to make homebuying easier and control rising prices. While her proposals aim to support working families, they may face opposition from corporations and Congress, as similar ideas were rejected during Biden’s presidency. Democrats hope Harris’ plans will appeal to voters worried about their financial future and usually see Republicans as more robust on economic issues.
