Former President Donald Trump expressed doubt on Sunday about whether he would take part in the first presidential debate against Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump questioned on Truth Social why he would debate Harris on ABC, criticizing an interview with Senator Tom Cotton on “This Week” and the show’s panelists.
The debate is scheduled for September 10, and both nominees have agreed to participate, following much discussion. Trump had earlier suggested a debate on September 4 hosted by Fox News, but Harris’ campaign did not agree.
Trump also criticized Donna Brazile, a former Democratic National Committee chair, and claimed that Harris’ friend, Dana Walden, leads ABC.
Jason Miller, a senior aide in Trump’s campaign, said the two campaigns continue to disagree on debate rules, including seating and notes. On the other side, Brian Fallon, a senior advisor for Harris’ campaign, argued that both candidates’ microphones should stay on throughout the debate, noting Trump’s past interruptions during debates.
