President Joe Biden has urged Congress to bolster the Secret Service after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The incident occurred at Trump’s golf course in Florida, where Secret Service agents swiftly intervened, preventing any harm to Trump.
This was the second attempt on Trump in two months, with a previous incident at a rally resulting in the death of an attendee. In response, Biden highlighted the need for additional resources for the Secret Service, including more personnel to ensure adequate protection.
Vice President Kamala Harris, also the Democratic nominee for president, expressed deep concern over the violence and pledged to ensure the Secret Service receives the necessary support to fulfil its vital role.
Both Biden and Harris have strongly condemned political violence, with Biden emphasizing at a Philadelphia event that there is no place for such acts in America. He stressed that political violence must never be tolerated.
