The Joint Committee of Parliament on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill held a meeting on Thursday. He sent representatives to five states to gather more information about the proposed changes.
Sources say the committee will send teams to Gujarat (Ahmedabad), Hyderabad (Telangana), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Bengaluru (Karnataka), and Mumbai (Maharashtra) later this month.
During the meeting, the panel heard suggestions from several experts, including Prof Faizan Mustafa, Vice Chancellor of Chanakya National Law University in Patna, representatives from Pasmanda Muslim Mahaz and the All India Muslim Personal Law Board.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha during the Budget Session. It was then sent to a 31-member Joint Committee, expected to submit its report to Parliament by the first week of the Winter Session.
