U.S. President Joe Biden gave his final speech to world leaders at the United Nations on Tuesday, saying Russia’s war in Ukraine has failed.
Speaking with just four months left in office, Biden faced ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, Sudan, and between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. He emphasized that a diplomatic solution between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah is still possible, even as tensions rise.
Israel recently struck over 1,000 Hezbollah targets, but Biden urged calm, stating, “Full-scale war is not in anyone’s interest.”
He also called for Israel and Hamas to finalize a ceasefire and hostage release deal, supported by the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt, which was met with applause from the 193-member U.N. General Assembly.
