Former Republican Senator Jeff Flake has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election, citing his conservative principles as the reason for his support.
Flake, from Arizona, said on Saturday that his backing of Harris reflects his belief in the rule of law. He emphasized the importance of supporting a candidate who would respect the outcome of elections and not attempt to overturn them.
Flake has crossed party lines before, endorsing Joe Biden over Donald Trump in 2020 and opting for a third-party vote in 2016. With just 37 days until Election Day, his support for Harris comes as she faces a close race against Trump, especially in Arizona, where polls show Trump slightly ahead.
Harris’ campaign is aiming to attract Republicans and independents in Arizona who, like Flake, may not agree with her on every issue but are disillusioned with Trump’s style of politics and his stance on election results.
