President-elect Donald Trump has announced that former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee will be the next U.S. ambassador to Israel. In his statement on Tuesday, Trump praised Huckabee, calling him a “highly respected” leader and public servant with deep connections to Israel.
Trump believes Huckabee’s efforts will focus on working toward peace in the Middle East.
Huckabee, a Baptist minister and former Fox News host, served as governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007. He previously sought the Republican presidential nomination in both 2008 and 2016, competing against Trump in the latter race.
Today, Huckabee is known for his show on the religious network TBN, where he shares his views on faith and politics. His nomination underscores Trump’s commitment to strengthening U.S.-Israel relations as his administration takes shape.
