President-elect Donald Trump is moving quickly to fill top positions in his administration following his win in the 2024 presidential election against Vice President Kamala Harris.
In just under two weeks, Trump has named approximately 20 people to cabinet and key roles, a faster pace than his first administration eight years ago, as well as quicker than past presidents like Joe Biden in 2020 and Barack Obama 16 years earlier.
Experts say Trump’s fast decisions show his deep knowledge of the process. Matt Mowers, a Republican consultant and former Trump transition team member, noted, “He certainly knows the ropes…He knows who he likes and what he wants to achieve.” Another expert, Matthew Bartlett, who worked at the State Department during Trump’s first term, described the staffing speed as “operation warp speed,” indicating Trump is rapidly choosing leaders for government agencies.
However, Bartlett also warned that some of Trump’s choices might face challenges during the Senate confirmation process. He mentioned, “The American people want a disruptor, but I’m not sure they want a destroyer as a cabinet secretary,” suggesting that not all nominees might be approved.
