Matt Gaetz, a well-known conservative figure in the US, has decided not to pursue the role of United States attorney general due to ongoing sexual misconduct allegations. This decision comes shortly after his nomination by President Trump, which lasted just over a week.
Following Gaetz’s withdrawal, President Trump quickly named Pam Bondi as his new choice for the position. Bondi, a former Florida attorney general, is a strong supporter of Trump and has previously worked on his legal team during his first impeachment. She currently leads the legal branch of the America First Policy Institute.
Gaetz, who has caused division within his own party and faced significant opposition in the Senate, explained on social media that his presence had become a “distraction.” His controversial past and the serious allegations against him, which he has denied, include claims that he had a relationship with a 17-year-old, which is illegal under Florida law.
Despite the controversy, President Trump expressed strong appreciation for Gaetz’s contributions, highlighting his ongoing influence in the government.
