Former acting director of National Intelligence, Richard “Ric” Grenell, might soon be playing a key role in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. President Donald Trump is thinking about appointing a special envoy to help end the war in Eastern Europe, and Grenell is a top choice for the job, according to Reuters. The news comes from four people who know about the president’s plans.
Right now, there isn’t a special envoy dealing with the war between Russia and Ukraine. President Trump, who has promised to solve this conflict quickly, is considering creating this new position. However, it’s not certain yet if he will go ahead with this idea, or if Grenell would accept the role if it’s offered to him.
Grenell, known for his strong support of Trump, previously worked as a U.S. State Department spokesman at the United Nations during President George W. Bush’s time. He also helped Mitt Romney with foreign policy issues during Romney’s 2012 run for president.
Even though Grenell is a favored choice, there’s a chance President Trump might choose someone else for this important task. Neither Grenell nor Trump’s team has made any comments about this possibility yet.
