President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly planning to prioritize boosting natural energy production during his first days in office. According to sources familiar with his transition plans, Trump is focused on changing policies around liquefied natural gas (LNG) export permits and oil and gas drilling leases.
President Biden had paused new LNG export permits earlier this year, a move criticized by both the energy industry and lawmakers from both parties. A study by the National Association of Manufacturers warned that nearly one million jobs could be at risk over the next 20 years if the restriction continues. Trump has pledged to reverse this pause, a promise he often emphasized during his campaign. Sources told Reuters that he intends to strongly advocate for LNG exports once he assumes office.
In addition, Trump plans to expand drilling opportunities. His administration is expected to increase lease sales for coastal drilling, speed up permit approvals, and allow more drilling on federal lands. These actions aim to revive domestic energy production and support jobs in the industry. The president-elect’s energy agenda reflects his commitment to reshaping policies to promote natural energy development.
