After violence erupted in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP for using power to create divisions between Hindus and Muslims.
Gandhi said this approach was harmful to both the state and the country. The violence began on Sunday when protests broke out against a court-ordered survey of a Mughal-era mosque in the area. Three people were killed, and many others, including police and officials, were injured. A fourth person died from their injuries on Monday.
In a statement on social media, Gandhi expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the violence. He blamed the state government for acting hastily and without considering all sides, which he believes made the situation worse. Gandhi accused the BJP of creating unnecessary divisions between communities.
He also urged the Supreme Court to step in and address the issue as soon as possible. The former Congress leader called for peace and unity, asking citizens to come together in harmony despite the tensions.
