In Maharashtra, there is ongoing uncertainty about who will become the next Chief Minister. The Shiv Sena stated that Eknath Shinde, who is a key figure in their party, would not agree to be the Deputy Chief Minister. According to Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Shirsat, the party won the recent elections on November 20 mainly because of Eknath Shinde’s popularity.
Shirsat expressed that Shinde fought the election as the face of their party and should continue as the Chief Minister, rather than settling for a lesser role. He mentioned that having Shinde as Chief Minister would send a positive message to the public and help the party in future elections.
There was also a suggestion from Union Minister Ram Athawale for Shinde to consider a role in national politics while allowing another leader, Fadnavis, to lead Maharashtra. However, Shirsat dismissed Athawale’s idea, emphasizing that they want to focus on the state’s politics themselves.
He also compared the situation to a recent delay in Karnataka, where it took some time for the Congress party to announce their Chief Minister. Shirsat concluded by saying that the ultimate decision would be made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Meanwhile, another Shiv Sena MP, Naresh Mhaske, suggested that the BJP should follow a strategy used in Bihar where Nitish Kumar was made Chief Minister despite not having a majority.
