Chicago – December 12, 2024
The Biden administration announced a new national plan to fight Islamophobia, aiming to protect Muslim and Arab Americans from discrimination and hate.
This strategy, which is the first of its kind, comes after an increase in hate crimes and threats against these communities, particularly following the October 2023 attack by Hamas on Israel. In a statement, President Biden emphasized that America was built on the idea of equality for all. “We are all created equal and deserve to be treated equally,” he said.
The strategy aims to raise awareness about anti-Arab hate, improve safety for Muslim and Arab Americans, fight discrimination, and promote respect for religious practices.
The White House also highlighted the tragic killing of a 6-year-old Muslim boy, Wadee Alfayoumi, in Illinois last October, and other attacks on Muslim and Arab communities.
To support this plan, President Biden created a special group in December 2022 to combat both antisemitism and Islamophobia. This new strategy seeks to unite Americans to protect and support all communities.
