Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra showed her support for Palestine on Monday by carrying a bag with “Palestine” written on it to Parliament. The Congress general secretary has been outspoken against Israel’s actions in Gaza and has expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Her handbag, which featured the word “Palestine” and symbols like a watermelon (a symbol of Palestinian solidarity), sparked reactions from various political parties, especially the BJP. BJP MP Anurag Thakur criticized Gandhi, questioning what message she was trying to send by carrying the bag.
In response to the criticism, Priyanka Gandhi said, “Tell them to address the atrocities happening to minorities like Hindus and Christians in Bangladesh. They should talk to the Bangladesh government to stop these wrongdoings.”
Recently, Abed Elrazeg Abu Jazer, the Charge d’affaires of the Palestinian Embassy in New Delhi, visited Gandhi to congratulate her on her victory in the Wayanad bypoll in Kerala.
Earlier this year, Gandhi had strongly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him and his government of “genocidal actions” in Gaza, calling their actions “barbaric.”
