The US military has confirmed that it carried out airstrikes in Yemen, targeting a missile storage site and a command-and-control center operated by Iran-backed Houthi rebels. According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the strikes were aimed at disrupting and degrading Houthi operations, particularly their attacks on US Navy warships and merchant vessels in the Southern Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb, and Gulf of Aden.
CENTCOM stated that the strikes reflect their ongoing commitment to protecting US and coalition personnel, regional partners, and international shipping.
The Houthi militants have been targeting merchant vessels, with over 100 attacks reported since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023. The terrorist group has vowed to continue their attacks until Israel ends its campaign in Gaza.
The US airstrikes are part of a broader effort to counter Houthi aggression in the region. The strikes demonstrate the US military’s commitment to protecting its interests and allies in the region. The situation remains volatile, with ongoing tensions between the US, Iran, and other regional actors.
