The Congress Working Committee (CWC) began its “Nav Satyagraha Baithak” meeting on Thursday in Belagavi, Karnataka, to commemorate 100 years since Mahatma Gandhi presided over its 1924 session. Party leaders, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former chief Rahul Gandhi, marched to the meeting venue, symbolizing their commitment to Gandhi’s legacy.
The gathering holds historical significance as it takes place at the same venue where Gandhi assumed the party’s presidency a century ago. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and KC Venugopal also attended.
The meeting aims to honor Gandhi’s ideals and prepare an action plan to tackle political and electoral challenges in 2025. Congress has pledged to protect Gandhi’s legacy, claiming it faces systematic attacks from opposing ideologies.
A controversy erupted over Congress posters allegedly misrepresenting India’s map, with BJP criticizing them as “vote bank politics.” In response, Congress dismissed these claims, saying BJP is rattled by the centenary celebrations.
The meeting reflects the party’s resolve to address future challenges while preserving its historical values.
