Chicago – January 28, 2025
The Trump administration will hold its first White House press conference on Tuesday afternoon with Karoline Leavitt, the newly appointed press secretary.
This comes after President Donald Trump has been actively engaging with the media since his inauguration on January 20, including interviews with Fox News’s Sean Hannity and speaking with the press while travelling to disaster-stricken states like North Carolina and California.
Although the media have interviewed Trump’s press secretary, this will be the first official press briefing since he took office.
Leavitt, at 27, is the youngest press secretary in U.S. history, surpassing Ron Ziegler, who was 29 when he served under President Richard Nixon in 1969.
Leavitt played a strong role in defending Trump during his 2020 campaign against Vice President Kamala Harris and also made her mark by running for Congress in 2022. She won her primary but lost in the general election. Before becoming press secretary, Leavitt worked as assistant press secretary in Trump’s first administration and later served as communications director for Rep. Elise Stefanik.
Leavitt now takes over the role from Karine Jean-Pierre, who served as press secretary in the Biden administration. The press conference will be an important moment for Leavitt and the Trump administration as they begin their work in the White House.
