Elise Stefanik Nominated as US Ambassador to the United Nations Advances to Full Senate Vote
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted to advance Elise Stefanik’s nomination as US Ambassador to the United Nations to a full floor vote. Stefanik, a former chair of the House Republican Conference, underwent a confirmation hearing earlier this month, where she highlighted her efforts in combating antisemitism on college campuses ¹.
Stefanik received bipartisan support from committee members, including Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, who praised Stefanik’s interest in supporting the UN’s work. However, not all Democrats are on board, with Sen. Chris Coons announcing his opposition to Stefanik’s nomination in protest of President Trump’s recent freeze on federal funding.
A full Senate vote will determine Stefanik’s confirmation as the US Ambassador to the United Nations.
