President Donald Trump recently lashed out at former Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, saying he’s “not equipped mentally” to lead. This comes after McConnell opposed Trump’s Cabinet nominations, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for Health and Human Services.

Trump expressed his disappointment, stating that McConnell “wasn’t equipped ten years ago, mentally, in my opinion.” He also described McConnell as “a very bitter guy.” The two have had a strained relationship, especially during Trump’s previous presidency.

McConnell’s shift from being a key GOP leader to opposing his own party’s nominations has raised eyebrows. However, Jim Manley, a former Democratic Senate aide, isn’t surprised. He believes McConnell was “living on borrowed time” and would have faced trouble getting re-elected as leader.
