Dr. Mehmet Oz, President Trump’s pick to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), vowed to combat healthcare fraud and promote healthier living during a Senate hearing on Friday ¹. Oz, a renowned heart surgeon and former TV personality, emphasized the importance of leveraging technology, such as artificial intelligence and telemedicine, to make healthcare more efficient and accessible.
Before the Republican-controlled Senate Finance Committee, Oz highlighted the significance of a healthy population in reducing expensive chronic diseases. He suggested providing guidance on healthy food choices, noting that most Medicare Advantage plans offer food allowances but lack practical advice on using them wisely.
However, Oz dodged questions about whether he would oppose cuts to Medicaid, a government-funded program for low-income individuals. His nomination has sparked concerns among Democrats, who are seeking assurances on his stance regarding Medicaid funding.
