A shocking accident occurred during a joint live-fire exercise between South Korean and US military forces on Thursday. Two South Korean fighter jets, KF-16s, accidentally dropped eight MK-82 bombs on a civilian area, injuring 15 people and causing significant damage.
The bombs fell outside the designated firing range in Pocheon city, northeast of Seoul, hitting residential buildings, a church, and a truck. Two people were seriously wounded, but fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
According to initial findings, the accident was caused by a pilot inputting incorrect bombing coordinates. However, more investigation is needed to determine why the second KF-16 also dropped bombs on the civilian area.
The South Korean Air Force has apologized for the incident and promised to provide compensation to those affected. They have also established a committee to investigate the accident and examine the scale of the civilian damage.
