Chicago – July 14, 2026

Darline Graham Nordone, the sister of the late U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, has been appointed to serve the remainder of his Senate term following his unexpected death. South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster announced the appointment, saying Nordone will hold the seat until the current term expires in January, providing continuity while the state prepares for a special election.

Nordone, who has not previously held elected office, has long been involved in public service through disability advocacy and has been a familiar presence in her brother’s political career. During the announcement, she described the appointment as a tremendous honor and pledged to continue the work her brother began on behalf of South Carolina.

President Donald Trump publicly supported Nordone’s selection, calling it a fitting tribute to Lindsey Graham’s legacy. She is expected to be sworn into office this week, becoming the first woman to represent South Carolina in the U.S. Senate. A special Republican primary and general election will determine the state’s next long-term senator.
