Immigration was rated the second most important issue for American voters in a recent survey, second only to inflation and economy. Immigration is an issue which is so important for the people that it is critical that they know on how both the presidential candidates plan on tackling this subject.
Former President Trump holds the stance that he will immediately put in place the travel ban, border crossings will be closed. Whereas, President Biden has a different approach, he has recently announced a new asylum policy providing protection to many undocumented immigrants.
President Biden’s policy is a little old school according to which the US should be a beacon of freedom where immigrants are welcome so long as they uphold the American values and boost the economy.
His recent policy restricts unauthorised entry but also makes entry for spouses and children of US citizens easier.
On the other hand, Trump’s policies on immigration are hardcore. He enacted the travel ban for many countries, he minimised border crossings at the Southern border and reduced asylum seekers. Also, perhaps his most critiqued policy of separating illegal migrant families put him in the limelight as well.
Immigrants support the Democratic rhetoric as it supports them whereas, Republicans don’t want to support Boden (the democratic candidate) who wants to bring more immigrants into the country to steal their jobs.
For the American voters, it is really important to know which side they want to support as the next President will shape the immigration policy.
