US Deports Indian Nationals, Imposes Lifetime Ban
The United States has deported 104 Indian nationals on a military aircraft, marking one of the largest deportation operations targeting undocumented immigrants from India. These individuals entered the US illegally between 2021 and 2024 and will face a lifetime ban from 20 countries, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

Details of the Deportation
The deportation is part of the US government’s intensified crackdown on illegal immigration. The Indian Enforcement Directorate has launched an investigation into 4,300 individuals suspected of unlawful entry into the US during the past four years. Biometric data of the deported individuals has been recorded, ensuring they’ll be denied visas if they attempt to re-enter legally.

Impact on Deported Individuals
Experts suggest that deported individuals may face scrutiny in India, particularly regarding their methods of entry and potential involvement in human trafficking networks. This development has sparked discussions on immigration policies and their impact on Indian nationals seeking opportunities abroad.

State-wise Breakup of Deportees
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the 333 deported Indian nationals who arrived in India in three separate flights are from the following states:

  • Punjab: 126
  • Haryana: 110
  • Gujarat: 74
  • Uttar Pradesh: 8
  • Maharashtra: 5
  • Other states: 10

Concerns Raised
The Ministry of External Affairs has raised concerns about the treatment of deportees during the operation, particularly regarding the use of shackles on women. The US Standard Operating Procedure calls for the use of restraints to ensure safety and security, but the Indian side has expressed its concerns and sought humane treatment.
