The Israeli military has carried out multiple airstrikes in Yemen, targeting Sana’a International Airport and various other locations controlled by the Houthi group. The strikes were aimed at military facilities used by the Houthis, who Israel claims have conducted terrorist attacks against it.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) justified the airstrikes by stating that the Houthi group has launched numerous attacks on Israel, including drone and missile strikes. Specifically, the IDF reported that over 200 missiles and 170 drones were fired at Israel following a significant attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, which resulted in 1,200 deaths.
In addition to targeting the airport, the IDF also struck power stations in Hezyaz and Ras Kanatib and military infrastructures in the ports of Al-Hudaydah, Salif, and Ras Kanatib. This series of attacks comes after Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened to retaliate against the Houthi leadership for their missile strikes on Israel.
Furthermore, an attack from Yemen recently wounded 16 people in Tel Aviv, a rare failure of Israeli defense systems to intercept the attack. In response, Israel intensified its military actions in Houthi-held areas in Yemen, including bombing power plants in Sana’a.
Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have warned of more severe actions against the Houthis, emphasizing the need for Israeli citizens to remain patient during these military operations.
