Israel has carried out a second strike on Beirut, Lebanon’s capital, in just a few days. The attack has put the shaky ceasefire with Hezbollah, a militant group, to the test.
According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, four people were killed, including a woman, and seven were injured in the strike. Israel claimed it targeted a Hezbollah militant who was planning a terror attack against Israeli civilians.
The strike hit a building in the southern suburbs of Beirut, with two missiles destroying the top three floors. Witnesses reported that no evacuation warning was given, and families living in the building have since fled to other parts of the city.
Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun condemned the attack, calling on the international community to support Lebanon’s sovereignty. The US State Department, however, supported Israel’s response, stating that Israel was defending itself against cross-border fire from Lebanon.
