Ohio Democrat Sherrod Brown has officially launched his campaign to return to the U.S. Senate in 2026. Brown, who lost his seat to Republican Bernie Moreno in 2024, is confident that his pro-working-class message will resonate with Ohio voters once again. He’s seeking to unseat Republican U.S. Sen. Jon Husted, who has already received President Donald Trump’s endorsement.

Brown’s decision to run comes after watching the Senate pass Trump’s tax breaks and spending cuts bill. He feels compelled to fight back, stating that nobody in the Senate is speaking out for Ohio workers. Brown believes it’s his job to advocate for them, and he’s determined to continue doing so. At 72, Brown is considered one of the Democrats’ strongest Senate candidates in the 2026 midterms.

Brown’s candidacy is part of the Democrats’ efforts to take control of the Senate chamber. He and former Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper in North Carolina are two high-profile names recruited to run in key races. Meanwhile, Republicans are struggling to find candidates in some battleground states, including Georgia, where Democratic incumbent Sen. Jon Ossoff is their top target.
