Oman Stands Firm on Palestine Support, Causing Tension with Israel and Arab Allies
Oman has reaffirmed its strong support for Palestine, calling for an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. This declaration was made during a recent Arab League meeting and has caused tension with Israel and some Arab nations that have ties with Israel. Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr Al-Busaidi, emphasized the need for a two-state solution and condemned Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
Israel expressed disappointment with Oman’s stance, urging the country to reconsider and engage in dialogue. Meanwhile, neighboring Gulf states, including the UAE and Bahrain, grew restless over Oman’s firm pro-Palestine position. These countries normalized ties with Israel in 2020 and fear that Oman’s stance could lead to renewed regional instability.
Palestinian leaders welcomed Oman’s support, calling it a “diplomatic victory.” Oman’s move signals a broader resistance to Israel’s increasing influence in the region. As international pressure mounts for a Gaza ceasefire, Oman’s stance may influence other nations to take a stronger pro-Palestine position. The development underscores shifting Middle East dynamics, with traditional Arab alliances facing strain over the Palestinian cause.
