Protest Against Waqf Amendment Act Set for April 19 in Hyderabad
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) is organizing a public protest meeting against the Waqf (Amendment) Act on April 19 in Hyderabad. The event will take place at Darussalam, the headquarters of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), from 7 PM to 10 PM.

Background of the Protest
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has criticized the Waqf (Amendment) Act, calling it unconstitutional. He claims that the Act violates several provisions of the Indian Constitution, including Articles 14, 15, 25, 26, and 29. Owaisi has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reconsider the Act, which he believes imposes an ideology contrary to Indian nationalism and the Constitution.

Details of the Protest Meeting
The protest meeting will be presided over by AIMPLB President Khalid Saifullah Rahmani. Members of the Muslim Personal Law Boards from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, along with other prominent Muslim organizations, will participate in the event. The gathering aims to highlight the perceived negative impact of the Act on Waqf properties and mobilize public opinion against it.

Peaceful Protest Emphasized
Owaisi emphasized the importance of peaceful protests and expressed hope that the event would strengthen opposition to the Act. The AIMPLB has already moved the Supreme Court against the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. A bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justices Sanjay Kumar and K V Viswanathan has agreed to consider the plea.
