Chicago – December 04, 2025

Omar fired back strongly, calling Trump’s obsession with her and the Somali community “creepy” and “unhealthy.” She wrote on social media: “I hope he gets the help that he needs.” She rejected the notion that she or her community would be intimidated or scapegoated. “We are not going anywhere,” she said. “We are here to stay.”

In public remarks, Omar accused Trump of using immigrants as political targets — calling out the broader political context and what she described as xenophobic and Islamophobic overtones.

During a recent cabinet-meeting appearance, Trump asked reporters about Somali immigrants (especially from Minnesota) — and went on a harsh tirade. He described the immigrant community, including Omar, as “garbage,” claiming they “contribute nothing” and should “go back” to their countries.

The attack came amid wider scrutiny of Somali immigrant communities in Minnesota, including recent high-profile fraud investigations. Trump used these as justification for broad generalizations — a move critics saw as racist and discriminatory.
