Illinois State Senator Ram Villivalam Leads Charge on Progressive Policies

State Senator Ram Villivalam, representing Chicago’s 8th District, continues to advocate for progressive policies in Illinois. Since his election in 2018, Villivalam has focused on improving infrastructure, protecting workers’ rights, and promoting social equity. His efforts have led to significant advancements in the state, including the passage of a landmark $45 billion infrastructure bill.

As Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, Villivalam has prioritized sustainable transportation and equitable access for underserved communities. He has also supported legislation to raise the minimum wage and expand paid leave, demonstrating his commitment to workers’ rights. Additionally, Villivalam has backed criminal justice reforms, including the elimination of cash bail through the Pretrial Fairness Act.

Villivalam, the first Indian American to serve in the Illinois Senate, remains dedicated to immigrant rights and healthcare access. His office regularly engages with constituents through town halls and community outreach. Looking ahead, Villivalam plans to tackle climate resilience and affordable housing, striving to build an Illinois that works for everyone.
